Alex's Side

Documents of a Teenage Vampyr

August 18
Hey. My name's Alex, but people call me Al. I decided to start this journal for reasons you'll soon find out. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I'm a 16-year-old teenager just trying to make his mark on this world. I'm just a normal teenage guy. Well, as normal as a vampyr can get. And remember, that's Vampyr. VAM-per. It's kinda like a super vampire. We have all the benefits, the strength, the speed, the shapeshifting, etc. But none of the drawbacks. For example, vampyrs can go out in sunlight whereas vampires will turn into ash. And we don't need blood, we can survive on normal food, but we do have an extreme lust for the taste of blood. It's pretty sweet, if I may say so myself. Anyways, more about me. Haha. I listen to rap, rock, punk, pop, you name it, I listen to it. Except country. Ugh, I hate country. I'd rather listen to smooth Jazz than listen to country. I almost have a girlfriend, but it's hard because I can't really just go on a date with her and be all like, "Oh, by the way, I'm a blood-sucking freak." That just doesn't work! Trust me, I'd know... But I hope to change all that soon. Theres this girl, you see? We've been friends for as long as I remember. Her name is Sara. My gosh, that girl is gorgeous! She's got long brown hair, eyes as green as fresh grass, she is just drop dead gorgeous! She doesn't know I'm a vampyr, obviously. She unknowingly avoided getting turned herself, thanks to me. But that's beside the point. Anyways, I plan on telling her sometime soon. Before I try to kiss her. But she's been totally honest with me our whole lives, and now it's time for me to return the favor. Who knows? Maybe she'll think it's sexy. Hehe...probably not. I'm just hoping she doesn't freak out on me. Well, it;s late, I'm tired, and unlike vampires, vampyrs need their sleep. Goodnight.

Alex shut the journal. He'd started so many of them, to document his life for reasons he didn't know. The others were all gone, thrown away. He was no good at this writing crap. Not like her...but enough of that. He couldn't think of her now, now was the time to focus. He had to get back to his nightly workout. He'd started sneaking out and going down to the old abandoned warehouse in the Neon. He'd stopped going as often as he should. He used those workout sessions to test his limits, expand his knowledge of his powers, and to just blow off some steam. He threw on his workout clothes: black, long-sleeved underarmour; tight-fitting jeans; regular black Chuck Taylor's Low-Tops; and a black Led-Zeppelin shirt. Also tight-fitting. He turned his head in the general direction of his parent's bedroom. He could tell by their quickened heartbeats and the fast, frantic sounds of their breathing that they were having sex. They'd be asleep soon after they were done. He decided to run to the warehouse. Sure, he could fly, but why not? Besides, he could use the exercise. He slid the window open, and then jumped the two-story leap to the ground, and then took off. A car turned down the street, coming towards him. He quickly leaped up to a tall oak branch above him. The streets were unusually busy for this time of night. It'd be best to stick to the rooftops. He leapt on top of a nearby building. Ah, fuck it. He'd fly. He sprinted for the edge of the building, and made a strong leap off the edge, then felt himself start to become smaller, lighter. He spread his arms out wide, and felt his biceps stretch down. His fingers changed, became long and thin, making the structure for the wings. He was now a small bat, flying high above the rooftops. He angled his wings and turned South, making his way to the Neon. He quickly arrived at his destination. He flew inside of a broken window, and then began the change back to human. Time to begin the agility. One of the best parts of being a vampyr: no need to stretch. You don't have to worry about pulling anything if your tendons are super-strong. He ran towards a wall, jumped, and tacked off towards a low hanging pole. Grabbing the pole, he swung a quick 360 and let go, flinging himself at some nearby boards. He had arranged the boards to form sort of a makeshift balance beam. Seconds before he hit the boards, he tucked his knees and swung his arms back, landing in a handstand. He stretched out his legs, doing a perfect splits while walking on his hands. He turned, raised his legs, then pushed off with his arms, laughing as he flew through the air. He loved the sense of being able to do whatever he wanted with his body. But that was enough for one night. He made the shift back into bat-form, and flew off back home. Today was a good day. Things had been going his way. He hoped his luck would continue in the week to come, especially with Sara. He so wanted her to understand him, but how could she? Enough thinking, it was time for bed. He flew in through the window, morphed back, quickly stripped and climbed in bed. Tomorrow was feeding day. He'd go swipe some blood from the local blood bank, then go around front and donate some right back. It was a system he'd thought of back at the beginning. He closed his eyes drifted off to sleep.

August 19th
Man, am I nervous! I decided that I'll tell her tomorrow night. Go on a walk, tell her, and let her think over it. Wish me luck, Journal! That is, if you really could.

August 20th
Can someone please explain to me what just happened? Here's what went down. The night went according to plan. We walked, we talked, she could tell something was on my mind but she didn't push it. That's what I like about her. She knows me. Anyways, once we got done, I walked her home like the gentleman I am. We got back to her house. She leaned in to kiss me... and I dropped the bomb. She didn't really believe me, she thought I was chickening out of the kiss, but as I explained, she understood, asked me for a demonstration. So I got her a flower from down the block in the blink of an eye. Chrysanthemum. Her favorite. The steps back, stutters a little bit, then says she'll see me later. She started going inside, then she turned around and she kissed me. I ran home in like, two seconds. It was amazing. I couldn't believe it! I told her. She believes me. She didn't care. I just hope she doesn't come to her senses.

August 21st
Slept in till noon today. Church tomorrow. Still haven't heard from Sara. Damn.

August 22nd
Went to church today. The sermon was about truth. How ironic. Anyways, just got a call from Sara. She wants to go on a walk later. In the rain. Sara hates the rain. This is a good sign...I think. Anyways, It's almost time so I gotta go. I'll tell you how it went.

My goodness, that was one heck of a walk. I threw on a plain black hoodie to match my jeans and head out the door. We decided to meet at the park where we first met that day back on the field trip our classes took to the park back in kindergarten. I meet her there, she's also wearing a black hoodie. We both wear a lot of black ever since the kidnapping... which is another story for another time. Anyways, we started our walk. Neither of us talking, just walking to the highway. We finally get to the highway and turn to head towards our overpass. It's the overpass we started hanging out at a few years back when we got caught running away from home together. We get there and sit down, me in my usual spot, but she does something different. She comes towards me and sits sideways in my lap, resting her head on my shoulder. She finally speaks.
"How long have you been...you know?"
I swallow. I knew this moment would have to come. "Back when we got kidnapped? It was those guys."
"I thought so."
"What?"
She looks up. "I knew there was something different about those guys. And I heard them talking. They talked about you and how after you had changed they would watch..." She choked on a sob. I hadn't even noticed she was crying. I'd never seen Sara cry before.
"Watch what?"
"Watch you rip me apart."
I didn't know what to say. Luckily, she continued.
"When we escaped, I figured you hadn't been changed. I mean, you acted funny around me for a while, but the moment I saw you didn't burn up in the sunlight, I figured you were fine, but..."
"But I wasn't."
"But you weren't." She laughed a little. "Obviously." Thats what I love about her. She can always laugh and smile without disguising her feelings. I gently brushed her hair back behind her ear.
"We both changed. I definitely got a new outlook on life."
"You got more serious."
"I did." We sat in silence for a few minutes. Finally, she looked up at me.
"But I'm glad. I never could have a serious conversation with you. That was really the only thing stopping me..." I swallowed and glanced down.
"From what?"
"From this." And she sat up and kissed me. And this time, I snapped out of my daze soon enough to kiss her back. And we sat and we kissed, and we ignored the honks from the cars who passed us, not caring who saw or what they thought of the two black hoods pressed together. It was amazing. After a few minutes of what seemed like hours, we decided it was time to walk home. So we did, and we enjoyed it. We talked, and we laughed, and she held my hand :] When we got back to her house, she kissed my cheek and did that half-walk half-run thing girls do when they get excited. Once again, I went on my two second run home. As I passed my living room, I called to my parents that me and Sara were an item now. They said they had been waiting for it since we were in first grade together. Then I came up to my room to tell you all about it. Well, I think I may go to bed early tonight. I had a very stressful, very tiring, and very amazing day. I plan on seeing Sara on Tuesday. Goodnight

August 23
Monday. Gosh, I hate Mondays. But it's raining, so that's a plus. Unlike Sara, I love the rain. That's what I like about her. Even though we disagree on small things like that, we're still happy to compromise So I took the time today to finally get registered for school, which starts unusually late. September 1. Nice, right? Sara's been wanting me to get registered since the beginning of the summer. Anyways, I'ma go hang with my homies Chris and Justin. Tell them the good news about Sara.
